in the crosswind
the chagrinned girl,
thick-skinned, untamed,
set her aim on
her claim and rights
now she fights the
good fight without
any doubt or
burnout of faith
in the crosswind
the chagrinned girl,
thick-skinned, untamed,
set her aim on
her claim and rights
now she fights the
good fight without
any doubt or
burnout of faith
the dam is cracking
soon enough it will collapse
countless tears will flow
again, cleansing old sorrows
and making room for new ones
take the first step
then sidestep the
mistep; shakeup
and mix up and
pile up at will
how to go pro
take it slow don't
say NO say YES
to the test learn
to rest and breathe

the melody
flows gently on
its way to me
say what you will
get your fill as
it spills through the
hills sharing life
I cannot sleep
counted sheep that
came cheap enough
heap enough wool
just a tool fight
a duel for the
school of hard knocks
there is no one with whom to share
there is no moon at which to stare
even the stars don't seem to care
even my dreams lead me nowhere
I am not sleeping like I know I should
in the back of my mind there is deadwood
that needs to be cut into firewood
I don't mind setting fire to the night
show me the moon under intense blacklight
show me true repentence deep and contrite
then lead me to a place where I can sleep
self-righteousness has no room to complain
it embraces all the gloom
then kills faith in the woumb
